"It's hard to say, Andreas. I'd like to think so, but..." Lilith fell silent quickly afterwards, lost in thought.
"Then, the decision has been made. The time is now." After the Oracle said this, everything goes to black.
"I don't know about stuff like that."
A cheerful young blonde girl, around ten years old and in a Hello Kitty t-shirt, smiles to her friend on the school bus. It's a scorching hot Florida day, but she doesn't seem to mind.
"What do you mean?" Her friend asks.
"Well, my parents have never been around. I live with my Aunt."
Her friend looked a little troubled by that. "Isn't that kind of weird?"
The girl shook her head. "I don't really mind. She's nice."
"But, do you even know what your parents are like?"
The girl's smile fades away a bit as she looks down at the ground.
The girl, now looking a few years older, walks through a rather small, cramped, and untidy home, making her way into a kitchen space where an older lady was chopping vegetables.
"Um, Aunt Robbie?"
The woman didn't turn around, keeping her attention on her cooking. "Yes, Lilith?"
"How close were you any my mom?"
The woman stay quiet for a moment, the only sound the steady rhythm of the knife. "Well, we didn't talk to each other much..."
The both of them stayed uncomfortably quiet.
"Alright, thanks Aunt Robbie."
The girl, now a teenager, is sulking in a dark and dusty attic, clasping her arms around her legs with her eyes cast down. She is surrounded on all sides by useless junk from older days, piled up all the way to the top of the room.
"What does she know... she's not my mom."
She furrows her eyebrows as she angrily punches the wall that she is leaning against. The vibration from the impacts causes a book to fall down from one of the piles. From the look of it, it's a journal. Curious, the girl reaches out and blows on the cover.
"That name..."
She very quickly opens up the book, quickly scanning over all the information she could find. "Many may confuse The Balance for a form of magic, but in truth, it is an easily explained scientific phenomena that has to do with the energy of the universe..."
The girl is now clad in a school uniform and is sitting on an outdoors bench on her campus. She is engrossed in the journal, but her concentration is broken by the sudden arrival of a rather nosy boy.
"Why do you read that every day?"
"It's interesting."
"What's it about, anyways? There's nothing that could be THAT interesting."
"Doesn't matter. Hey, don't you have a class this period?"
"Come on, lemme see!" The boy reaches out and snatches the book out of her hands and begins to look through it's pages. The girl quickly stands up and tries to snatch it back, but the boy easily keeps her at bay. His eyes widen as he realizes what he's looking at.
"This is really fucked up... This is some real Satanic shit going on here. What's your deal?"
The boy looks back to the girl, but he's suddenly launched several meters back as he does, landing on his back on a patch of grass. He yells out some curse words before looking up and seeing the world around him dissapear into black nothingness.
"Wh-what? What the fuck is this?"
He panics and gets back up to his feet, but he can still only see into a black void.
"What the fuck is this, Lilith?"
The girl's voice sounds through the void. "Don't you dare ever speak to me again. Should you decide to do so, your soul is forfeit."
The void melts away back into the familliar landscape of the campus, and the boy begins to run away, clearly shaken by the experience. The girl walks back to where he fell, carefully picking up the journal and cradling it in her arms. "Serves him right." She walks back to the bench that she was just sitting on, satisfied with what she had done.
"You don't listen to me at all, Lilith! You just sulk all day, chewing your fingers and looking around nervously. Just tell me what I'm doing wrong, alright?"
Lilith casts her eyes down and chews on her thumbnail.
"Is this some kind of rebellion? You wear all those weird dark dresses, that heavy eyeliner, you say weird things all the time... I just don't know what to do about you."
Lilith sighs as she stands up from her bed. "Alright, I get it. I'm sorry, Aunt Robbie." She moves to her dresser and begins to take out various clothes, putting them in a dark backpack. "I'm sorry I've caused you so much trouble. I'll leave you alone now."
"...What? Lilith, what are you doing?"
"I'm leaving you alone now. I've always been a bother to you, so I'll just rely on myself now."
"Lilith, you can't do that! Come on, let's just talk about this."
Lilith looks straight into the eyes of her Aunt. "You know that I'm different, don't you? Just like my mother was. That person you were so scared of... You just got stuck with me, didn't you? Well, I get it. It's fine. I'm just going to go now."
"Congratulations, child. You have faced yourself."
"Then, the decision has been made. The time is now." After the Oracle said this, everything goes to black.

I knew this wouldn't be easy.

Hmph... well, we never really had much in common. I could never quite fully open up to Aunt Robbie.
The girl, now a teenager, is sulking in a dark and dusty attic, clasping her arms around her legs with her eyes cast down. She is surrounded on all sides by useless junk from older days, piled up all the way to the top of the room.

So that's where it all began. It's been a while now, I can sometimes forget.
The girl is now clad in a school uniform and is sitting on an outdoors bench on her campus. She is engrossed in the journal, but her concentration is broken by the sudden arrival of a rather nosy boy.

I've always had a flair for the dramatic like that.
The void melts away back into the familliar landscape of the campus, and the boy begins to run away, clearly shaken by the experience. The girl walks back to where he fell, carefully picking up the journal and cradling it in her arms. "Serves him right." Well... I guess he provoked me. Still...
"You don't listen to me at all, Lilith! You just sulk all day, chewing your fingers and looking around nervously. Just tell me what I'm doing wrong, alright?"
Lilith casts her eyes down and chews on her thumbnail.

I don't want to see this.
Why did I have to see this?
I'm sorry Aunt Robbie. I'm sorry things had to turn out like that. But... I had to do it. I'm so close to learning about my parents and the stone... maybe one day we can make up.
I've turned into such a toxic, corrupt person. With almost no morals to speak of. But I don't mind... I still have time to make a difference. I still have time to make it ok.
"Congratulations, child. You have faced yourself."
