CHARACTER PROFILE
Name:
Jonah James Remington
Age:
42
Country of Birth:
England
Country of Residence:
England
Languages Spoken:
English, Russian, Japanese, French, Spanish, Latin, Greek, Italian, German, Chinese
Personality:
Jonah behaves as an older gentleman than he really is, often complaining about the lateness of things as behooves a Brit who's obsessed with punctuality. He often gets excited at the prospect of learning new things, almost like a child, and he can be quite bullheaded when he wants to be. He's also generous to a fault, and people often play his kindness against him. He doesn't LIKE to be played, and can be very cruel when he learns of such things.
History:
Jonah James Remington was born to a fairly rich and old noble family in England, and from day one he had always been obsessed with knowledge. His brothers, all six of them, were the kind to be excited about adventures and war - but Jonah would have none of it, spending day after day with his books and only occasionally (and begrudgingly) leaving the Remington household to learn the various skills required of those with a noble title. His teachers would oft praise him for being a quick study, while bemoaning his general lack of interest in the more physical classes he took. He was the envy of his brothers, in whose eyes such learning came all too easily, but beloved all the same. In 1939, at the age of 20, war broke out with Germany. He urged his brothers to remain home while he joined the RAF to fight the Nazis, claiming he would not let their blood be spilled, and that it was their duty as scions of the Remingtons to provide for the less fortunate of the British Empire. In 1942, following a failed assault behind enemy lines in Egypt, Jonah was forced to crash-land. He was presumed dead by his military, but six months later showed up in El Alamein, having evaded capture solely on his quick wit, linguistic skills and his ability to read people. This caught the attention of MI6, which promptly reassigned him to their communications department after a brief period of intelligence training. Jonah proved quite the asset to the British Empire's military intelligence community, having devised a number of useful instruments and aiding in cracking down on German and Italian communications. After the war, he requested to be discharged in order to help his family rebuild their wealth and country. He spent the following years traveling the world and opening new commercial lines.
Notable Skills:
Besides a vast array of technical and historical knowledge, Jonah is also keenly observant of human behavior, to the point he's been said to read people's minds sometimes (which nonetheless he often dismisses due to his kind nature). He is a skilled fighter pilot, and is also trained in survival, close-range combat and is a decent marksman on his own merit. By far, however, his linguistic ability is his most notable asset, and he works cryptography almost like a machine.
Notable Weaknesses:
Jonah dislikes open conflict most times and will work to disavow violent attempts in his vicinity, sometimes to the point of self-harm, which often places him at a distinct disadvantage against people with an intent to kill from the onset. His kind nature is also easily abusable, and he will often listen to pleas for mercy at least twice. His reputation as a gentleman and his own family can often be used against him as well.
Important Items:
Jonah is seldom seen without his swordcane and personally customized timepiece, as well as his notebook.
He also often carries other concealed devices, such as sleeping pills on the heels of his shoes, or a garrote string on his belt buckle. The only weapon he carries OPENLY, however, is his old service revolver.
Appearance:
Jonah is of average height and deceivingly lanky build. Outside most city environs, he can be seen in a pair of black leather boots, matching pants and an open-collared gray shirt with his trusty cane by his side, which he typically keeps on his belt when not in use. He also can be seen with a waist-pouch where he often keeps his notebook (with a copy or two more often than not) and a dull gray vest with a chain dangling from it. He has deep green eyes and sports black, short hair as well as an impeccable short beard.
STAND PROFILE
Name:
Surprise Drive
Ability:
Surprise Drive is capable of perceiving events at incredible speeds (a necessity in order to properly utilize its kinetic control ability). It is also capable of absorbing or increasing kinetic energy within a 100-yard radius of himself. Surprise Drive cannot work upon people or objects that it is unaware of and it cannot absorb or increase kinetic energy at the same time. The more abrupt the change and the greater the mass, the greater the toll it takes on Jonah. Therefore, it is easier for him to stop, say, an arrow or bullet coming at him from 100 yards than 50, and it would be easier for him to accelerate something over the course of 100 yards than 50. This makes close-range attacks more difficult to deal with, particularly those with greater acceleration, though multiple objects/people only add to the issue through their mass. Surprise Drive cannot go further than 90 feet from its user.

Appearance:
Surprise Drive looks kinda like... a racecar and a driver fused in one. Its head resembles a racecar driver's helmet, with the addition of airfoils, its chest appears somewhat like the body of a Formula-1, with wheels at the balls of its feet (which it can shift to dash around on). On its knuckles are two crests representing Remington's family encircled in chains.
