Ayy boys it's your admin dad (or ResIs) here and I'm going to introduce you to the world of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Streetlight Manifesto.
In the 1950s in the small American town of Fallbrook, a strange flash of lightning suddenly shorts out electrical equipment in the entire area for a few minutes during one fateful day. People ignore it, thinking of it as a mere outburst from mother nature, but soon strange events start to occur in the city, people claiming that they see strange lights in the sky at night, saying that certain buildings in Fallbrook are haunted or filled with creatures far more disturbing than any human or beast in existence. Some even claim to see a flying figure in the sky at night, believing it to be the Mothman, a mythical figure that is quite popular around the town, viewed as the town's guardian spirit in times of great crisis. People start gaining strange abilities known as "Stands" which allow them to do incredible feats, while also burdening them with a greater connection to the strange events in Fallbrook.
Things take an even worse turn once the town's local asylum suddenly has a break out, psychopaths and maniacs escaping and hiding and biding their time, planning on how to satisfy their sick pleasures. The local gangs in Fallbrook take advantage of the chaos and try to go big, corrupting cops and offering protection to scared citizens in exchange for money and loyalty. The only wall that manages to hold off the two forces are the police and a squad of Stand users interested in the town's safety. While seeming relatively peaceful, Fallbrook is at war against this strange and mysterious events, but were they really an external force or was there something within the city all along, an ancient, dark mystery that people ignored and that is only now awakening? It's up to the players to find out.
The player characters in Streetlight Manifesto are the thin line preventing Fallbrook from tearing itself apart from the multiple wars within it. Their backstory doesn't need to be connected to the setting, but some extra reasons for why they're trying to protect or figure out the mysteries in Fallbrook are always appreciated. Fallbrook is a quiet town with a relatively small population. Its mainly surrounded by dense forests and tall hills and mountains nearby and the town is notorious for having many abandoned buildings which have yet to be demolished by the local demolition crew. Dozens of hospitals, schools and various other buildings have been abandoned, but that doesn't mean that they are empty, since asylum patients, gang members or creatures from beyond may inhabit them. Mothman is also a popular attraction in the town and he's a surprisingly attractive symbol for tourists. Various Mothman restaurants, statues, plays and costumes exist as tourist traps and the rumor that Mothman has been sighted flying over the city has now made him an even more popular figure.
Unlike previous RPs, this RP has the addition of Ghosts and Paranormal Creatures in it. For instructions and details on these types of characters, please check the thread here.
Just like another RP, Instant Crush, there will be no groups in this RP. Instead we'll use a mission based system with four possible thread variants. However we'll only be doing three threads per chapter and instead rotate for the next chapter so that the unused fourth variant gets used in that one. Users will be able to "sign up" for their preferred thread variant in the respective chapter planning thread that will be assigned for each chapter.
The thread variants are:
1. Crime Scenes: In Streetlight Manifesto various crimes will occur, caused by either gangs, insane patients or even worse beings. Stand users will be tasked to help with the investigation, search for clues, interrogate peculiar witnesses and hopefully catch the perpetrator and bring them to justice. Perhaps they'll even find deeper secrets while investigating, secrets linked to the dark past of Fallbrook itself.
2. Stand Fights: Not all Stand users are good, nor do they share the same views as our player characters. Some of the least favorable ones will cause a ruckus around town, forcing other Stand users to confront and stop them.
3. Paranormal Activity: Strange things happen in Fallbrook, things that people are unable to describe and even comprehend, but Stand users have a deeper connection to the supernatural and are able to see things that normal people can't. In this thread Stand users will encounter strange creatures from a world beyond along with spirits of people who have already perished. They might find new enemies, but also forge new friendships, or perhaps just figure out more about the strange happenings around Fallbrook. Whatever happens, it'll be an adventure.
Also keep in mind that the tone of Streetlight Manifesto is supposed to be mostly grounded. This doesn't mean that jolly or fun characters aren't allowed or that comedic or humorous moments are frowned upon. It just means that despite the weird events happening, this RP will still try to stay connected to reality and deliver a darker and more serious plot than other RPs going on at the same time. Please remember that.
I hope this information was useful for you and that you're excited for the future adventures in Fallbrook!
