Character Profile
Name: Cormack Nelson
Gender: Male
Age: 38
Country of Birth: United States of America
Personality:
A gruff and somewhat stoic individual, Cormack hides a compassionate and driven side beneath his outer shell. The distance he’s created between himself and the rest of society has motivated him to maintain a plain and unassuming nature most of the time, despite full-well knowing what he can do; Nelson prefers to keep out of the spotlight and public attention, leading many to mistake him as a loner. In truth however he desires human interaction greatly, yet is often times socially inept and unintentionally distant.
When motivated past his predilections for maintaining the personality of a brick, Cormack is a noticeably different individual. A case of Survivor’s Guilt obtained while fighting for the Allies in North Africa creates an unyielding drive to do well by humanity. He will go out of his way to protect others from dying, especially if the cost is his own life. Though he has taken life in the past, Nelson generally refrains from repeating the act, only partaking when in the most dire of situations.
History:
Born in 1912 on a cattle farm in rural Kansas, Nelson’s childhood was fairly standard. He was put to work around the family farm from the tender age of six, and developed a penchant for manual labor from his experiences. Though gifted with a sharp mind, Cormack refrained from leaving the rural lifestyle in exchange for a proper education out west. Nature eventually forced the Nelsons off their property in 1934 at the onset of the Dust Bowl, with poor farming conditions prompting them to sell their land in order to move out to California.
Cormack and his family remained in California until the second World War, largely surviving due to the money he made as a construction worker. Eventually he enlisted in the United States Armed Forces at the age of 29, and was assigned to be part of the crew for an M4 Sherman serving as a loader, serving under the 2nd Armored Division. For a large portion of his life beforehand, Cormack had displayed no Stand powers whatsoever, and dismissively considered them to be little more than a legend. His latent potential was awakened when an 88mm shell tore through the front of his vehicle, instantly killing the other four members of his crew and destroying his tank completely.
Instead of dying alongside his crew, he awoke to find that his body had decompiled itself into a shifting mass of dust, now accompanied by a strange ethereal figure hanging over his shoulder. He discovered that whenever his body was struck by gunfire, shrapnel or any other immediate hazards, the figure would appear to convert his living tissue into a cloud of dust to preserve his life. Though horrified over the deaths of his crew and the appearance of what he perceived to be “the devil himself”, Cormack made his way back to an Allied staging ground and recounted his tale.
Though his body was completely healthy by the time he returned to safe company, Nelson was able to morph his body in able to mimic a debilitating injury. He was able to further adapt his body to accommodate changes made by medical procedures, and the recovery process that a normal human body would undergo in a normal situation. Nelson had mimicked such a severe injury that he was eventually honorably discharged from duty and presented the purple heart, though his reasons for doing so were rooted in an inability to understand his new reality.
As a civilian he made a valiant effort to understand his newfound Stand powers to a clearer degree, learning quite a lot about his abilities in the process. Despite it all, Cormack never found an explanation for exactly what was afflicting him, which inevitably led him to stop tinkering with it further. He named his Stand the 『Passenger』, on account of it constantly accompanying him through his life.
Current Life:
Cormack was able to further his education after the end of World War II, going on to achieve a degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Kansas. He spent the next few years drifting between jobs along the railways, growing comfortable around heavy machinery once more. Despite growing to accept his new ‘situation’ he refrained from staying in one place for too long for fear of exposing his Stand power. Recently he’s drifted into the town of Fallbrook, not for any specific purpose, but to simply find a well-paying job and potentially settling down, finally.
Skills: Cormack Nelson is no stranger to the harshness of heavy physical labor, and often revels in it as a typical strongman would. Besides this, he is an avid hiker and wilderness explorer in his free time, an engineer and something of a novice blackjack player. He has expressed an interest in learning how to play the guitar, but simply lacks both a guitar and the time required to do so.
Weaknesses: Nelson’s past experiences have driven him to erect walls around himself as a defense mechanism, and is socially inept to a degree. He feels a constant lingering sense of guilt for surviving what would otherwise be considered a fatal incident, while the rest of his crewmates perished. Cormack also possesses a moderately high neuroticism index, which has only increased his sense of anxiety and loneliness.
Appearance: The Kansas native stands at a modest 6’1, and is completely bald; it should be noted that while he is certainly capable of doing so, he prefers not to remedy his male pattern baldness with his Stand’s abilities. A gruff-looking face and a pair of steely blue eyes comprise his most immediately noticeable features. In the past he kept himself in a state of physical peak, though he has grown out of shape to a small degree. His outfit is usually made up of a brown lambskin leather jacket, a white undershirt, a pair of jeans and a set of workman’s boots.
Other Details: Passenger’s abilities allow Cormack to alter his appearance at any time, should he want to. Described above is what may be considered his baseline appearance.
Stand Profile
Stand Name: 『Passenger』
Ability: Passenger’s base ability is the versatile power of koniokinesis, manipulation of dust particles. Over time its abilities have been improved and expanded upon to encompass a wide array of useful utilitarian powers. It is capable of transmuting its user into a dust cloud to both protect them from harm, as well as to slip through gaps and crevices too small for an ordinary human being; it is also capable of altering the appearance of its user in this state, and can also mimic the biological processes of a human being as well.
Stand Type: Long-range
Power: D
Speed: B
Range: B
Durability: D
Precision: C
Learning: B
Appearance:
Passenger takes the form of a sand-colored ghostly humanoid of comparable stature to its user, though there are several key differences. A wide-brimmed sombrero rests on the stand’s head, which itself is structured to vaguely resemble a stylized human skull. The skull lacks a visible mouth and nose, and is marked by five orange glowing eyes arrayed in an arch. Most of Passenger’s body is concealed by a torn and flowing poncho resting over its torso, which terminates in a ghostly cloud of dust just above the knees. All of Passenger’s visible body appears to be comprised of an engraved ceramic material, including the head. Beneath the stand’s poncho rest a set of four arms connected in pairs at the shoulder. Although these additional appendages would in theory be very noticeable even when concealed beneath a poncho, Passenger’s arms don’t appear to exist at all while concealed.
Example of Powers:
Passenger lacks any traditional physical power, and its user relies heavily on creative use of its abilities to compensate. It is capable of traveling up to 70 meters away from its user while still maintaining effectiveness, and is able to be communicated through. A typical example of the stand’s power would be the use of controlled particle vibrations to reduce an object of ideal size completely to dust. While Passenger can disintegrate most objects, this ability is constrained by size, and cannot destroy anything larger than its user. This process is the secondary means of obtaining raw materials, with the primary being collection from the surrounding atmosphere itself; the range at which Passenger is able to draw in material from the air is represented by a sphere with a volume of roughly 5,792 cubic meters, with the user in the center.
The powers which Cormack has developed over time are as follows: creating dust-clones of objects, other individuals, including himself. Hardening dust particles into physical constructs such as tools and weapons is also well within his proverbial wheelhouse, too. He is able to collect and store dust on his person by transmuting it into physical objects, all of which he is able to carry normally, though he is limited by his physical strength in that regard. What his stand defines as “dust” is also not the broadest of terms. Loose dirt, sawdust, dead skin cells, hair, and shredded paper are all considered by his stand as viable materials to work with. Oddly enough, he is unable to manipulate similar substances such as sand, ash or snow at all; snow in particular is able to weaken his abilities by trapping nearby dust particles, which prompts him to avoid snowy areas.
